EXPECTATIONS OF ATHLETES
Academics
As a student athlete, you are your responsible for managing your time so you can be just as successful as a student as you are as an athlete.
Practice
We ride to competition on a team bus. You are expected to remain until the competition ends unless you have provided a completed transportation release to your coach in advance. There are two transportation release forms:
Your conduct is a reflection of you, your family, teammates, coaches and our school.
Academics

Practice
- The objective of practice is to help you improve. Practice enables you and your teammates to achieve your best.
- Practice on school days begins at 3:00. Please be punctual and ready to run.
- You are expected to join us at Saturday practice when we are not attending a competition.
- Please tell your coach as soon as possible if you are injured and unable to practice and report to the athletic trainer.
- Please communicate in advance with your coach if you will miss a practice or competition..
- Attendance may be taken.
- Athletes will be given two unexcused absences before they are dismissed from the team.
- Stay hydrated. Drink water frequently throughout the day. Bring a water bottle to practice.
- Wear appropriate clothing for the outside temperature. You will experience hot, cold and rainy weather each at some point during the season.
- If you are running off school grounds, be alert at intersections. Make eye contact to confirm a driver has fully stopped to let you pass.
- Run on the sidewalk where possible and in single file when necessary so as not to obstruct traffic. Avoid heavily trafficked streets.
- If you are injured while on a training run, contact the athletic trainer, Patty Hickey at 781-446-6290; 4612 or your coach. If an emergency, call 911.

- Transportation Release Form #1 allows a parent or guardian to transport his or her own student.
- Transportation Release Form #2 allows an adult that is not the student’s parent or guardian, but who has been CORI approved by Wellesley Public Schools in advance, to transport the student.

- Maintain a positive attitude, regardless of your personal performance.
- Support, encourage, and congratulate your teammates, both at the back and the front of the pack.
- Respect and listen to your coach when he or she is speaking.
- Display good sportsmanship at competitions. Congratulate and encourage your opponents.
- Clean up after yourself and others. Pick up trash and disposable water bottles after practice and competitions.
- Uniform
- Training shoes
- Racing shoes, with or without spikes (bring the metal points and a spike wrench)
- Warm outer layer or water/wind resistant clothing
- Water bottle, filled in advance
- Light food for before and after race (i.e., PB & J, apple, carrots, banana, trail mix, energy/granola bar)
- Garbage bag for gear in case of rain
- Towel
- Foam roller as needed
- Folding chair, blanket
- Electrolyte drink such as Gatorade or Powerade
- Optional - money to buy food or merchandise, particularly for Saturday invitationals
